Emphatic win for Kiveton against high-flying Glapwell

Kiveton produced one of their most emphatic displays of the season, as they crushed high-flying Glapwell in their last home game of the season.

Having won the toss, Kiveton captain Adam Whiteley decided to field first, after the pitch had been under covers due to inclement weather the previous day.

It looked to be a good decision as Kiveton’s opening attack of Matt Hall (3 for 31) and Richard Spurr (2 for 29) gained control of the match with some very accurate bowling.

The pressure from the Kiveton bowlers ensured wickets fell consistently with the Glapwell batsmen unable to build partnerships.

At 71 for 5 Glapwell were in danger of being unable to post a competitive score.

However, captain Matt Page (54), ably supported by Liam Douglas (37), dug deep to add a sixth wicket partnership of 71.

Despite their best efforts Glapwell lost more wickets and could only finish on 158 for 9 when their 50 overs were completed.

As well as great efforts from Hall and Spurr, spinner Gary Andrews (2 for 41) also bowled well for Kiveton.

Despite not being set a large total to chase Kiveton still needed to battle to reach their target.

The early loss of captain Adam Whiteley, in the first over of Kiveton’s reply, gave Glapwell early hope but Matt Cartwright (55) joined opener Richard Grainger (50*) and they used their experience to post a second wicket partnership of 94 before the former was dismissed.

This wicket brought to the crease former Glapwell player Hall and he capped off a fine all-round day by hitting a run a ball 38 to aid Grainger in steering the home side to a comprehensive eight-wicket victory with eight overs left.

Kiveton’s final match of the season is no normal end of season fixture as they visit local rivals Anston with local bragging rights at stake for both clubs.
