Dramatic loss for Anston in local derby
Home 191 all out
Away 173 all out
Worksop staged a dramatic fight back to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat – thanks largely to an oustanding debut performance against local rivals Anston.
South African Bernhard Beukman played a starring role in his first game for Worksop.

Anston won the toss and elected to field, but by drinks this looked like a bad decision from visiting skipper Martyn Long as Worksop made 121 for 3.
Despite losing their openers Luke Ambrose (12) and Liam Ainger (18) the partnership between Beukman and captain Conor Smith quickly added 57 runs.
Beukman moved past his half century before Smith was caught trying to hit Long over the top.
Long (5-27) picked up a couple of quick wicket as Spooner and another debutant Stallworthy failed to make double figures, and Beukman departed having made an impressive 71.
The Anston captain swept through the Worksop tail.

Glenn Pym (10) was run out after rupturing his Achilles tendon and will be out for a minimum of six weeks.
It was left to Chris Pickering to wrap up the Worksop innings as he dismissed Dave Hancocks for four and Worksop closed on 191 all out.
An Anston win was on the cards when their opening pair made 121 for 0 from 20 overs.
Smith turned to part time spinner Beukman and it came off to devastating effect.

Marsh departed for 67 after been caught in the deep by Liam Ainger, quickly followed by Long (56) both off the bowling of the South African.
Beukman continued to get wickets and when Dave Hancocks returned at the other end the two Worksop spinners began to eat away at Anston who were reduced to 168 for 8.
Suddenly 192 was looking a long way away and so it proved as Beukman (6-30) and Hancocks (4-36) shared the remaining wickets to bowl Anston out for 173.
For Worksop, Spooner took three catches in the slips, there was an outstanding catch on the boundary from Smith Jnr and the winning catch came from that man Beukman again.

Kiveton continued their promising start to the season with another resoundingn batting display.
The bowlers also deserve a special mention as they produced a disciplined display from the start after winning the toss and inserting the visitors.
Jonny Plant (2-22) and veteran Richard Spurr (3-41) opened the attack for Kiveton and it only took two balls for Plant to dismiss the dangerous Martin Cheshire, who was unlucky to play the ball onto his own stumps.
This was a huge setback for the visitors who took time to settle into the match against Kiveton’s attack.

Ben Marson (35) played well before he was dismissed by Matt Hall (2-45) to leave the visitors struggling.
However, an impressive partnership from Salaam Butt (60) and South African Arno De Beer (37) threatened to take the game away from Kiveton at a critical stage as they scored freely and confidently.
Kiveton wrestled back the initiative with the introduction of the in-form Chris Story (3-45) and the re-introduction of experienced veteran Richard Spurr and they were able to take wickets at regular intervals to eventually bowl the visitors out for 200 in the 44th over.
Kiveton began their reply in quick fashion and by the fifth over they had already reached 50, but with the loss of opener Richard Grainger (5) caught behind off South African paceman De Beer (1-42).

In form batsman Adam Whiteley (121*) and Matt Cartwright (47*) then produced a partnership of high class as they scored quickly and heavily against any bowler that Thoresby could throw at them.
Neither player looked like getting out and so it proved as they made sure of a resounding victory in the 44th over of Kiveton’s reply ensuring their encouraging start to the season continues.
Kiveton’s next game is a visit to newly promoted Cuckney where they will be hot favourites to continue their winning streak.
