Dan Christian hails overall team display after Notts beat Durham in T20

The Outlaws defended just 150 with Christian delighted by his batsmen’s grit and his bowlers efficiency.

The result means that Notts finish the qualifying matches as the number one seed and will play Leicestershire Foxes at home in the quarter finals.

“It was a really good scrap," he said. “I think. It wasn’t a normal wicket that we’re used to here at Trent Bridge, it was pretty slow and gripped a bit.

“It was a great job from all the batsman, no-one really stood out, everyone chipped in and got us to a defendable target and then we got off to a good start with the ball.

“All the bowlers did well and I thought we fielded brilliantly as well and a couple of run outs which makes up for all the hard work we’ve put in during practice.”

They were helped on their way by a game-defining over from Imad Wasim.

Wasim took two for 24 but also executed a couple of run outs as Durham fell short of a victory.

Ben Duckett top-scored with 29 as the normally free-scoring home side were kept in check.

Alex Hales fell in the first over. Chris Nash followed for 13 but Notts looked to be getting back on track as Joe Clarke picked off a succession of boundaries, before he was out.

Ben Duckett and Tom Moores began a rebuild befpre being parted after a stand of 49 when Moores was caught behind. Duckett was out next over to leave Notts faltering at 92 for five.

Wasim and Steven Mullaney gave the score a boost in the final overs with an unbroken stand of 31.

Durham’s pursuit of 151 began badly, with Sam Clark caught out in the first over. But the main damage was reserved for the fifth over when 36/1 became 37/4.

Ben Raine hit Wasim straight to Hales at mid off, Alex Lees was smartly stumped by Moores for 28 and then an horrific mix up led to David Bedingham being run out.

Brydon Carse made 24 before picking out Matt Carter, to give Mullaney his 100th wicket in this format.

Wasim then connected with a direct throw to find Scott Steel short of his ground and but for some late hitting from Liam Trevaskis that was effectively that.
