County cricket: Notts match heading for a draw

Nottinghamshire’s middle order look to have taken their side out of Yorkshire’s reach on the final afternoon of the LV= County Championship match at Trent Bridge.

Samit Patel made 76 and Riki Wessels added 43 as the home side reached tea on 291-7, an overall advantage of 278 with just one session of the match remaining.

Patel’s first half century of the season had arrived from 75 balls, with five fours, before he flashed hard at Will Rhodes and edged the ball through to wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd.

Hodd then hung to his third catch of the day to remove Wessels from the spin of Jack Leaning, with the wicket falling four deliveries before the second new ball became due.

Chris Read and Vernon Philander ensured there would be no further mishaps though, with the match now seemingly certain to end in a draw.
