Notts returned to training on 1st July as they crank up preparations for the delayed county cricket season, which begins on 1st August.

And Slater, who joined the county last season from Derbyshire, admitted it was a strange feeling to be back in action.

“It is exciting to be back, but also a bit strange at the same time” he added.

““We have got used to lockdown life over the last three or four months, so it is great to be building towards the season.

“When you walk into Trent Bridge it is special and it's nice to hit a few balls. We managed to do a bit of everything in training on the first day back.

“I’ve seen a couple lads on the golf course so it is nice to get back amongst the lads and have some normal life.

“It felt like the first day back at school when we returned for the first day of training.”

The Chesterfield-born left-hander, who spent five seasons with hs home county, knows the squad now face a busy month as they look to hit the ground running.

He said: “We cannot wait to get out playing competitively. Everyone will be buzzing when it finally comes around.

“We have got some hard work ahead of us to get to where we were at the start of pre-season. We were in good shape and ready to take on the season. The season will be a bit different now.”

The format of the new season across white and red ball cricket is yet to be confirmed by the ECB.
