Bawtry maul Marshalls for just six runs

The total equals the Bassetlaw League record, and is the lowest since Creswell II scored the same number in 1978.

Dan Lovell took 7 for 3 for Bawtry in the rout, after they had declared on 185 for 7 in the Division Four clash.

Nick Hutton hit 80 in Bawtry’s innings, helping them to 20 points.

But Bawtry’s Lewis Gawkrodger said he felt for the unfortunate opponents, who had several players missing due to a wedding and could only field nine on the day.

He told the Guardian: “It was another win, another tick off the list for us as we’re chasing promotion.”

“I have some sympathy for them as they didn’t have a full line up and they had players who weren’t ready to play that level of cricket.”

“We did the job we wanted to do and it was just good to get a game on, given the weather recently.”

Marshalls II captain Ian Brooks spoke in defence of his makeshift side after the humiliating defeat.

““It was vice captain Martyn Snell’s wedding, we had 10 players at that,” he said.

“There were six cricketers in the side and some dads and the club chairman filled in.”

“It’s one of those things, it wasn’t pleasant for them but we’ll come fighting back again.”

Marshalls II picked up three bowling points in the defeat.
