Aston through to play-offs

Aston Hall earned the right to represent the South Yorkshire senior league and Yorkshire Council play-offs, albeit by the skin of their teeth.

Their opponents at Northfield Lane, Wickersley Old Village also could have qualified, but needed to beat Aston and bowl them out in doing so.

Aston decided to bat first and in a desperately slow start did not pass the 50 mark until halfway. They were in trouble at 63 for 4 until Carl Tiler joined Amir Riaz to add 46 runs for the fifth wicket.

Tiler left at this point with 48 to his credit and Riaz followed with 27. The Aston innings closed at 152 for 8. Khuram Javed took 3-40 and Haider Jahangir 3-34.

In response Wickersley had lost both openers with the score at 51 for 2. This brought together Shaajhan Younis and Jahangir who added 102 runs without separation.

Younis was 66 not out and Jahangir 33 not out as the winning score was reached.

With Elsecar failing to bowl out. Barnsley at Shaw Lane, the result meant that Aston Hall, will visit Featherstone in the Council play-offs next Sunday.
