Aston Hall hold off Main

Aston Hall held off the challenge of an enthusiastic Houghton Main side, in the South Yorkshire Premier League.

Main skipper Ian Simon, with 12 fours and three sixes hit 82, raised 121 runs alongside Michael Brown (30).

With contributions from the other batsmen Houghton reached 223 all out.

Carl Tiler came on at third change to capture both openers and finish with 5 for 61.

Houghton’s hopes were raised when they reduced Aston to 35 for 2.

Amir Riaz (51) then combined with Uzman Azeem to add 112 runs for the third wicket before Azeem and Juan Grobbelaar took their team to victory with an unbeaten 72 runs for the fourth wicket.

Azeem was 82 not out, which included nine fours and a six and Grobbelaar was 45 not out, with six fours and three sixes.

In the Division One basement battle at Green Lane, Aston Hall B were easy victors over Bradfield to raise hope they can escape from relegation.

Bradfield batted first and thanks to an excellent innings from Bill Green of 60 not out they mustered an innings total of 143.

Andrew Scott took 4 for 35 and Tim Shaw 3 for 24.

Aston lost their first two wickets with 77 on the scoreboard.

Tim Shaw and Todd Saxelby combined for the winning partnership.

Shaw was 70 not out, including nine fours and Saxelby 34 not out with seven fours.

Maltby moved into second position in Division Three after overwhelming Conisbrough B at St Peter’s drive.

Conisbrough were bowled out for 104, with Liam Woodward claimed 4 for 36 and Gary Porter 4 for 22.

Maltby cruised to a 10-wicket victory with skipper Tom Groom smashing 14 fours and two sixes in reaching 84 not out, supported by Paul Jeavons with 19 not out.

Maltby completed their task in 15.5 overs.

At Muglet Lane Mexborough B were bowled out for 50 against Maltby B in Division Four action.

Jordan Beighton took the honours with 5 for 22 and Peter Brewster aided with 3 for 19.

Maltby lost just three wickets in completing their task.

They now sit seventh in the table.
