Anston hope to cap best ever season

The Ryton Road men won the Bassetlaw League’s Twenty20 competition, the Mallen Trophy, and that has qualified them for the Feeder League final.

Gedling Colliery, the winner of the South Notts Cricket League’s equivalent competition, are the opponents on Sunday at Papplewick and Linby’s cricket ground at 1pm.

Captain Mark Parkinson, who also led his men to a club record second place finish in the Championship, is already delighted with their efforts in 2012.

“It’s been a fantastic year,” he told the Guardian.

“We built on last year, which is what we set out to do, and picked up a trophy for the third year running.”

He picked out the emergence of a new talent as a real highlight of the season, and paid tribute to the club’s overseas star Amila Perera.

“Josh Marsh, our 16-year-old opening bat hit a 70-odd and an 80-odd and I’ve been very impressed with him.”

“He came through in the second half of the season from the juniors and that’s been really pleasing.”

“And Amila has been outstanding again with the bat and ball, his knowledge of the game is a real asset.”
