Competitive closed championship finals

IT was a busy week for the Gainsborough and District Table Tennis League.

The closed championships took place on 11th March at the Queen Elizabeth High School and consisted of seven competitions.

The Veterans Singles Final went to five ends and was won by Clive Mitchell 11-9 over Phil Dixon.

The Junior Singles also went to five ends and was won by Steven Johnson 11-3 in the fifth over last year’s winner Karl Wynne.

The Division Two Singles also produced a very tight final and was won by James Cooper 11-7 in the fifth, over Dave Mason.

The handicap (played up to 21 points, best of three ends) was won 21-12 and 21-15 by Ryan Mitchell over Chris Gamble.

The Individual Singles was won by Paul Johnson who beat a very competitive Clive Mitchell, while the Draw Doubles was won by Paul Johnson and Ryan Mitchell over Dave Mason and Steven Johnson.

The consolation singles was won by Karl Wynne over Daniel Davies.

Thanks were expressed to the High School, Paul Johnson for providing barriers and Ken Eliot, Phil Dixon and Steve Mason for organising the event.

The league’s dinner and presentation evening is being held at the Hickman Hill Hotel on 27th April.
