Clowne Road Runners made it a hat-trick by winning the men’s team event once again in the “Round Rotherham 50 mile Challenge Race.”
The Rowbothams Round Rotherham International Trail Event covers 80km and is an undulating route with overall 800m of climb through South Yorkshire’s forest. More than 230 individual runners and walkers took part in the full 50 mile race with walkers starting the race at 6am, individual runners at 7am and the 24 teams from around the UK starting at 8am.
Each team consists of eight runners, each runner running a different leg of the course and each leg is a designated distance, with some stages greater than the others.
Clowne Road Runners team members were (in leg order) Dan Page, Paul Sadler, Gareth Lowe, Andy ward, Darren King, Peter Twigg, Lewis Banton and Graham Worsfold. The winning time for Clowne was 5:26:46.
Clowne RR also had four other teams in the competition, with the open team finishing in a time of 6:40:39, Tthe mixed “A” team in 7:00:42, the female team 7:11:09, and the Clowne mixed “B” 7:45:22.
Sunday saw six Clowne RR take on the “Woodland Hog” - a seven mile undulating trail race.
The course is a multi-terrain course through beautiful woodland trails and paths, starting and finishing at the cricket pavilion, in the rural village of Wadworth, South Yorkshire.
First home for Clowne RR was Dennis Learad in a time of 55:35, who also won the Over 60’s super vet award.
Other runners taking part were John Profit, 62:55, Greg Goddard 63:22, Dave Keeling 66:51, Graham Sheen 69:27 and Jim McIntosh 71:12
The Clowne Half marathon takes place Sunday 23rd November starting at 10am from the Clowne Community Centre, followed by the Fun Run at 10.05am.
This year the race will be “Chip Timing”, there is a full support package for those entering, free car parking, secured baggage, showers, hot and cold food, physio massage before and after race, spot prizes, an extensive winners prize list with category prizes, free technical t-shirt, free goody Bbag and a free download photo of you around the course, cost £13.00.
Places are limited to 750 and numbers are going fast for this value for money half marathon race.
