New boxing club in Manton

A WORKSOP boxing coach is encouraging all promising pugulists to try their hand at a new club opening next week in Worksop.

Ex-pro Dean Esheley, whose career spanned more than a decade, will open the new boxing club at Manton Athletics Club on Wednesday night.

And the 46-year-old is urging all those interested in taking to the ring at the Retford Road sports centre to give it a go under his tuition.

“We are very thankful to the Manton club for providing the gym and equipment to allow kids in Worksop somewhere to box safely,” he said.

“That’s the main thing. We want to offer the community a successful boxing club and, most of all, something they can enjoy.”

“If people want to box, are interested in boxing or just want to find out more then they can come down from 6pm next Wednesday and get involved.”

He will be joined by PCSO Chris Boyle, who currently trains in Lincolnshire.

Manton Athletics Amateur Boxing Club will run sessions every Monday (6-7.30pm) Wednesday (6-7.30pm), Friday (7-8.30pm) and they are looking at running a beginners’ class on Saturday mornings.

All participants must be over the age of nine. There will be a joining fee of £5 and £2 for every session.
