Bright spark Marcus raises cash for club

The eight-year-old came forward with the suggestion of a six-mile sponsored run, which he organised and completed himself in order to raise £250 for a rewire at the Manton Athletic Club facility.

Head coach Harry Watson told the Guardian: “Marcus has designed and printed the sponsor forms himself and organised the six-mile route using a pedometer.”

The run took place on Saturday at Manton Athletic Club, and fellow boxers Dylan Clegg and Declan Cairns joined Marcus to run the six miles in 48 minutes.

Harry said the funds were much needed, and allowed the club to focus fully on their first fight night, to be held at North Notts Arena on Friday 3rd February.

“Their efforts have raised over £250 to go towards the rewire, and helped us to get back on track to train for the forthcoming show.”

“Many thanks to Marcus and the lads. It’s not bad for an eight-year-old.”

“He’s training three times a week at Manton and he’s a very promising boxing talent,” Harry added.
