Athletic club boxers racking up the wins

MANTON Athletic Boxing Club are racking up the wins as they look to finish the year in style.

The pugilists from Retford Road have tasted success in Sheffield and Luton recently, as they look ahead to a big year in 2013.

In Sheffield last week youngster Dylan Clegg picked up his seventh win in 10 bouts with a majority decision victory, while Tom Summerset did well in a skills bout.

The 14-year-old weighed in at 91kg and took on a fighter at 97kg.

Coach Dean Eshelby said: “Tom’s a credit to the gym, he trains religiously.”

Adam Dent, also 14, made it three wins from three in Luton, impressing the judges in a bout against a home town fighter that went the distance.

On the same bill Matt Court won with a dramatic knockout.

After forcing a standing eight count in round one, tiredness set in for Court in round two, but he persevered and the 38-year-old sent his opponent to the canvas to have his hand raised.

The gym will be submitting a trio of fighters for the British Schoolboy Championships next year, but before that, Dent and Clegg are both in action in Birmingham on Friday night.
