Bouncing back

EAST MIDLANDS TWO

Atherstone Adders 3

WORKSOP bounced back to winning ways back at the Valley in the first of two games last weekend.

First to be put to the sword were lowly Atherstone Adders.

The Adders came determined to turn the form book upside down, but the hosts hit the next six times before half-time to take complete control.

Sam Gawthrope smashed home a straight hat-trick, ably assisted by Arthur Nash, finishing well after great work from Renny Myles.

Simon Cardwell scored from a short corner routine with aplomb.

Young Dec Fuller completed the scoring before half-time.

The second half started as the first had began.

Full-back Matt Monroe ghosted into the D and scrambled home to make it a magnificent seven shortly after the break.

Worksop took their foot off the accelerator and the visitors scored three consolation goals, but the result and three points had already been secured.

A WINTER monsoon came to Worksop on Sunday and with midtable Kettering in town the home side knew a stern test lay in wait.

Always competitive games, Worksop edged out their visitors with two goals in the first half.

Cardwell and Gawthorpe picked up from their exploits 24 hours earlier with two excellent finishes.

The second half was fairly even as wind, rain and snow lashed both teams.

Kettering did manage to breach the Worksop back line and half the deficit, although the result was never really in doubt.

Worksop move up to third in the league standings as a result of their double victory.
