Award for Wheelers cycle star Dominic Smith

Retford and District Wheelers held their final time trial of 2014 on the Carlton on Trent to Tuxford road course.

Competitors has to negotiate a stiff head wind for the five mile test.

The winner was Paul Austin with a time of 13 minutes 47 seconds.

Karl Briggs was second in 14 minutes 02 seconds and Roger Pennington took third place with 14 minutes 39 seconds.

Other results were as follows: J. Walker 14:46, L. Storey 15:03, J. Storey 15:57, D. and S. Jarvis (tandem) 17:00, A. Coop-Mann 17:54, S. Askin 20:30 and G. Waters (penny farthing) 23:25.

Later in the day the club held its annual dinner and prize presentation at the Markham Moor Inn.

Chairman Paul Austin reflected on the past season and highlighted the achievements of the club and its members, both on the road, track, cyclo cross and fund raising for charities.

The trophy for best achievement was awarded to Misson man Dominic Smith.

Smith has had an excellent season of results which have culminated in gaining a professional contract for next year.

Other prize winners were Paul Austin, James Storey, and David Jarvis.

Next Sunday’s club ride is to the Limes cafe at Bilsthorpe, a distance of between 30 and 40 miles.

There will be two groups, the faster group leaving just before the slower group.

Both groups are scheduled to meet in Retford market square at 9.30am.

New riders are welcome to join the ride.
