The Whitwell facility has been awarded the prestigious ‘GolfMark’ – adding Bondhay to Yorkshire Golf’s list of 44 clubs with the honour.

England Golf developed the GolfMark Award to identify and acknowledge golf clubs in England that are junior and beginner friendly and are proactive in their attitude to golf development through the recruitment and retention of golfers.

The GolfMark accreditation also integrates Sport England’s ClubMark award, a generic national standard for quality sports clubs recognised across the country.

More than 20 other sports, including tennis and rugby are also using the alliance to add value to their accreditation schemes and over 5,000 sports clubs have been awarded ClubMark or are working towards it.

GolfMark evaluates golf clubs on three areas within their junior section, ·the coaching and Playing, club environment and child welfare.

Richard Brown, the regional development officer for England Golf heaped praise on Bondhay.

He said: “Bondhay Golf Club is a shining example of a club that gives juniors a fantastic opportunity to play golf.”

“ They offer a well structured coaching and competitive programme, the children are made welcome by the membership and the management of the club are fully supportive of the junior section.”

“I will be watching with interest to see how the club builds on this award in the future.’’

The clubs junior organiser is Jenny Davies.
