CLUB RESULTS

THE Station Hotel visited the Lewden Springs complex near Barnsley which Andy Redfern describes as “a small, pleasant and well run silver fish venue.”

Unfortunately with a typical early autumn morning most anglers had to work hard for the fish, which were mainly ide, the venues dominant target fish.

In the end there was only two ounces between first and second with Ivor Jones taking 28lb 4ozs to finish just clear of Paul Mosgrove with 28lb 2ozs, and Martin Spencer in third with 23lb 4ozs.

British Gas visited the Little John Fishery last Thursday where they opted to fish the Friar Tuck lake.

They competed for the Geoff Barker Shield in what is the club’s last match of the season.

Andy Hill took the honours on peg 21 fishing worm and maggot for 35lb 4oz of small carp and Ide.

Mick Pogson took second with 26lb from peg 17 and Keith Walters made up the frame with 25lb 15oz, both employing similar tactics to the winner.

The members are reminded that the AGM is on 17th November at the Millstone at Tickhill.

Stanlety Street Sports and Social AC visited the River Trent’s Holmes Marsh length (pegs 41-57) last Sunday.

They found the river in an unforgiving mood with low, clear water.

Mick Pogson reports that the fishing was very hard and this was particularly disappointing after bumper weights were reported the previous week.

First placed Steve Royal managed one barbell and three small perch on the maggot feeder fished at distance from peg 57 for a net of 4lb 12oz.

Stephen Hill had a net of 4lb 9oz and third placed Ken Rowley took one barbell late on in the match to record 3lb 8oz.

Staying with Stanley Street one of their members, Terry Fox, decided on a total change of direction and had a go at dry fly fishing up on the River Derwent in County Durham.

Despite catching absolutely nothing (one got away apparently) Terry said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend anyone to give it a go.

The Batchelors AC fished their latest match on the signal pond at Lodge Farm on Thursday 8th September where all the members enjoyed good fishing catching carp on a variety of baits.

Leading the way was Derek Brownhill who amassed 73lb 10oz to finish just ahead of Stuart Grey with 69lb 9oz on peg 33, with Kev Chantry in third with 24lb 15oz from peg 2.

The Tuesday Club fished their last match of this season, at the Lakeside Fisheries with Sid Whitehouse leading the way with a mainly skimmer net of 51lb 2oz from peg 34 pole fishing luncheon meat.

Brod Perkins on peg 32 weighed 49lb 13oz and Mick Burrell in third on peg 40 with 49lb 12oz.

COMMERCIAL ROUND-UP

STARTING over at Riverside Fishery near Bawtry, Colin Childs triumphed in Tuesday’s open on peg 36 pole fishing pellet for 29lb 6oz .

Chris Lime used the same method in Thursday’s event this time on peg 6 for a net of 44lb 14oz.

Lee Hassett pole fished meat on peg 43 for a winning bag of 56lb 10oz on Friday with Dave Evans claiming victory in Saturday’s competition pole fishing pellet for 33lb 8oz.

Down the road at Lakeside Jamie Masson won Wednesday’s open on peg 29a pole fishing maggot for 97lb 10oz of carp and skimmers with the pellet feeder accounting for the best club win of the week on peg 32, which was an all silverfish net of 98lb 8oz.

The old favourite worm and caster is taking match nets up to 77lb.

On the carp lake James Horne tempted four specimens which included a 28lb 8oz ghostie from peg 1 on his TX1 shrimp boilies.

On the trout lake John Doherty landed 16 fish to 6lb on his cats whisker cast on his floating line with Worksop’s Alan Wilkinson slipping his net under 12 fish tempted on his Green and Orange blob presented on an intermediate line.

At Lodge Farm Tuesday’s open match on the lily pond saw Steve Bingham amass a winning bag of 134lb 13oz off peg 69 pole fishing pellet, while in Wednesday’s over 50s event on the signal pond Steve Nemass employed the pellet feeder due to the blustery conditions on peg 4 to put together a winning net of 90lb 8oz.

Thursdays competiton on the field pond saw Garry Brooke bag an unseasonable 147lb 6oz on peg 8 on paste, a summer method.
