Anston’s Mallen Trophy defence continues

Firbeck 87 all out

Anston 93 for 1

THE Ryton Road men’s defence of the Mallen trophy continued on Tuesday evening as they welcomed neighbours Firbeck.

Losing the toss Anston were put into the field and were immediately in the game as Norbury caught Robson off Ruczenczyn for one. A good partnership from Dutton (26) and Hubble (19) brought Firbeck back into the game until they were both removed by Barley. The Anston attack made good in roads into the Firbeck batting as only Needham (12) got into double figures. Firbeck’s innings closed in the final over as Perera took the last wicket to dismiss Firbeck for 87.

All the Anston bowlers took wickets, Barley (4 for 22) and Long (3 for 13) the stars with Ruczenczyn, Plant and Perera taking one apiece.

Anston attacked the bowling from the off and despite losing Lyne for eight off Needham, both Plant (38*) and Long (29*) ensured the hosts made it to the finals day on 8th July.
