All Blacks crash out of Vase competition

NLD VASE

Bourne 33

GAINSBOROUGH crashed out of the NLD Vase on Saturday after a poor numerical turnout and a poor performance.

The All Blacks failed to play to anything like potential in the first 20 minutes and in that time found themselves 25 points down.

The weather was ideal for rugby, Gainsborough travelled full of confidence and did not expect to end up conceding 33 points.

Whatever Gainsborough did after the first 20 minutes the deficit would never be overtaken and the side had to go for damaged limitation.

With only two subs the players had to buckle down and prepare for a hard time in the remaining 60 minutes.

Dodsley was injured in the first half and had to be replaced by Mark Ellis and Dawson was also injured well into the second half and replaced by Morgan.

Bourne’s first half points came through their backs, supplemented by a penalty, Gainsborough’s first half points were scored by Chadwick, taking advantage of a forward drive, he broke off from the back of a maul and crashed over, Parker converted.

The All Blacks, conceded another early try before scoring twice themselves in the second half.

Taylor made the hard yards and released to Goude who put Duncan in.

The second try was scored by Parkinson who kicked through and collected the ball to go over.

Bourne were starting to worry at this point but with 20 minutes to go they put the result beyond doubt by going over again.

The hosts finished the game the stronger of the two sides and dominated the last five minutes.

Positives were the performances of both props, Goude and Taylor supported by veteran hooker Russell, Man of the Match Richard Tooke and Daniel Dawson.
