A taste of angling

WORKSOP & District AA held a taster day at Sandhill Lake last Wednesday and participants received tuition from the five qualified coaches who made themselves available for the event.

The WDAA executive xommittee would like to thank all the coaches and helpers who voluntarily took part on the day.

Also to the three local tackle dealers Ken, Geoff and Greg who generously provided all the bait for the event, to the parents and guardians who took time out to bring the youngsters and finally to Kim and Michael of Snakattak for providing the refreshments

THERE are two matches to report on from British Gas AC, starting with 16th August at Sandhill Lake: 1st Steve Pogson peg 64 13lb 04oz mainly small skimmers on ground bait feeder; 2nd Terry Evans peg 23 8lb 14oz small skimmers and one decent tench groundbait feeder; 3rd Mel Kirton peg 32 6lb 05oz skimmers /feeder.

At Bank End Fishery, on the match lake on 23rd August: 1st Keith Walters peg18 78lb 11oz pellet up in the water/bubble/down margins; 2nd Bill Richardson peg 28 76lb 08oz as above; 3rd John Moore peg 24 67lb 08oz short pole with meat.

Their next match is on 30th August with a 9am draw.

Station Hotel AC of Shireoaks held their latest Summer League match (round 8) at Lewden Spring Fishery Pegs on Saturday 19th.

On a warm and overcast day and just about perfect conditions on this small mixed fishery near Barnsley, ide were the target species but most anglers found them hard to locate until the last hour of the match: 1st Sean Batty 32lb 00oz long and short pole/maggot/mixed; 2nd Mick Swift 25lb 02oz short pole/pellet/ mixed fish plus bonus 8lb carp; 3rd Ivor Jones 23lb 09oz long &short pole/maggot/mixed.

The Stanley Street Sports and Social AC made the trip to Hayfield last Sunday where they opted to fish the Big Adams lake: 1st Bill Richardson peg 53 111lb 12oz all carp catch fishing up in the water with 4 and 6mm pellet; 2nd Pete Scott peg 53 102lb 04oz as above; 3rd Shaun Story peg 46 50lb 08oz mainly carp catch using floating pole.

Members please note that the next match is at Lindolme (Laurels Lake) on Sunday 9th September with a draw at 8.30am.

Manton AC visited Mill Dam on the 25th for their latest event where they enjoyed hot and sunny conditions (very rare this year) with all of the main frame taking exclusively carp nets on pole fished pellet: 1st Dave Wilson peg 10 72lb 11oz; 2nd Neal Richards peg 3 60lb 5oz; 3rd Cliff Brailsford peg 15 54lb 5oz.

AT Lakeside, despite the recent poor weather, weights have remained consistently high with good mixed bags being taken on pleasure sessions as well as matches.

Wednesday’s open: 1st Les Richmond peg 28 84lb 13oz feeder fished meat; 2nd Paul Connoley peg 14 81lb 6oz.

Thursday’s saw the licensed victulers take to the main match lake: 1st Mark caudell peg 4 73lb 11oz plellet waggler; 2nd Terry Hodgson peg 13 66lb 6oz.

On the carp lake Worksop rod Craig Coggan took a seven fish haul from peg 3 topped off by a common of 22lb 6oz on cell boilies, while on the trout lake another Worksop angler had an impressive 13 fish haul to 8lb taken on cats whisker on a floating line.

Down the road at Lodge Farm pole and pellet is the in-form method with some magnificent weights being returned in last week’s matches to this method

Tuesday’s open was held on the Lily Pond: 1st Garry Brook 99lb 16oz peg 60; 2nd Chris Bacon 91lb 13oz peg 52.

Tuesday’s Comrades match was competed on the signal pond: 1st Kev Martin 129lb 2oz peg 7.

Wednesdays over 50s took place on the Long Island: 1st Keith Walters 125lb 8oz peg 98; 2nd John Gunn 116lb3oz peg 84.

Thursday’s match on the Field Pond produced something special with seven anglers taking over 1,000lb of fish between them with five weighing over 100lb: 1st Wayne Chappel 206lb 2oz peg 2; 2nd John Mill 163lb 3oz peg 14; 3rd Wayne Ibbetson 155lb 7oz peg 4.

The last of the Thursday evening three hour sprint matches took place on the top pond: 1st Garry Needham 42lb 1oz peg 26; 2nd Mick Shanks 35lb 4oz peg 42.
