Pause for Thought

As I write this, it is the beginning of Lent.

It has become the custom that we give something up for this period.
It is supposed to be to remind us of the deprivations that Jesus suffered, both on his way to and on the cross.
However, for many it seems that it is to make us feel good about ourselves. Jesus gave up his position with his Heavenly Father to become a human being tempted in all points as we are.
He remained sinless in order to die for us.
His resurrection made his death effective and offers us new life with him. That is the important thing.
