Black Friday (29 Nov) was a busy time for shops throughout the UK, with shoppers eager to get their hands on the biggest and best deals in time for Christmas.

But some Superdrug customers are said to be out of pocket after being charged multiple times for online orders that didn’t go through.

Charged multiple times

Superdrug customers have voiced concern that they've been charged for online purchases that didn’t process properly at the checkout, leaving them with multiple transactions for one order.

One shopper took to Twitter to ask Superdrug, “@superdrug I’ve tried ordering online twice and it’s taken the money out of my account but it’s come up with saying there’s a problem?

“Can you please sort it as I don’t want to miss the Black Friday sale. I’ve tried today and Friday and it’s done the same thing.thanks.”

Another customer tweeted the retailer, after concerns any order placed would result in issues.

The customer said, “@superdrug How long are your online Black Friday offers on for? Seen something I want to order but also seen there have been problems with the website today and money being taken but no order processed. Want to know whether to hold off a day for ordering? Thank you.”

The store simply replied, “Please DM us so that we can advise you more on this matter! I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks.”

After another customer explained that they were experiencing issues with ordering online, another shopper tweeted a reply, explaining, “same happened to me. and i tried to put the order through a second time which resulted in me being £40 down on an order that cost £20.”

‘Huge demand over the weekend’

A spokesperson for Superdrug said, "As you can imagine we have had a huge demand over the weekend for our Black Friday offers - we knew they were going to be popular and put plans in place in terms of customer service and IT support to help everyone’s orders go through.

"Unfortunately we know some customers have had trouble when placing their order and would like to confirm that if they have not received a confirmation from Superdrug their order has not been placed and we have not taken any money from their account.

"Sometimes, however the card payment process means the transaction begins and the funds are held before being released back into the customer’s account."
