Here's how and when you can watch Bloodshot online, starring Outlander's Sam Heughan

Perhaps the only benefit of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is that with cinemas closing up shop the world over, production companies are taking their big new releases online much earlier than anticipated.

This means that some of the biggest, most recent blockbusters are already available to stream at home, perfect when another day of social distancing is starting to take its toll on you.

One such film is Bloodshot, a new superhero movie that only released in UK cinemas on 11 March, but will soon be available to stream online.

Here's everything you need to know about it:

What is Bloodshot about?

In Bloodshot, Vin Diesel trades the high-octane thrills of The Fast and the Furious series for futuristic carnage in an action-packed thriller based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name.

Grizzled Marine Ray Garrison (Diesel) is shot dead during a mission but regains consciousness in Kuala Lumpur in the care of Dr Emil Harting.

The pioneering medic has brought Ray back to life using nanotechnology, augmenting the Marine's strength, agility, speed and healing capabilities on the battlefield.

Rechristened Bloodshot, Ray wages top-secret war alongside other enhanced killing machines including KT and former Navy SEAL Jimmy Dalton.

As the body count mounts, Ray experiences disorientating flashbacks to his former life.

He slowly pieces together a grand conspiracy that has robbed him of the woman he loved.

Who stars in it?

Star of the show is Vin Diesel, who stars as the titular character of Bloodshot.

Elsewhere on the cast, Eiza González (Baby Driver) plays Katie, Toby Kebbell (Dead Man's Shoes) is Martin Axe and Guy Pearce (Memento) portrays Dr. Emil Harting.

But it's the inclusion of Outlander's Sam Heughan as Jimmy Dalton that will likely have British fans most excited.

In fact, Heughan's performance in the film has made such a fan out of co-star Vin Diesel, the action star is tipping the Scot to be the next James Bond.

Diesel told the PA news agency: "Of course he'd make a good James Bond. He'd make a good anything."

No Time To Die - which has had its release date pushed back until later in the year due to coronavirus - will be Daniel Craig's fifth Bond film, and he has insisted it will be his last.

Bloodshot director David S F Wilson agreed with Diesel and said he would be a perfect fit for Bond.

"I would be there opening weekend for Sam as James Bond," he said at the film's premiere in Los Angeles.

"Sam is one of the nicest human beings I have ever worked with. Consummate professional, everybody loves him, very gracious with his talents.

"He's a lovely, lovely gentleman and if he should make the cut I will be there opening weekend, for sure."

Wilson added: "When we were casting, I was a big fan of Sam's to begin with, and his audition tape was just there with everyone else's, which was bizarre to me. He didn't even have to audition, he was just on the list of people I wanted in my movie."

How can I watch it?

Bloodshot will be available to stream from Friday 27 March.

You can buy Bloodshot for £13.99 from Prime Video UK, iTunes, Google Play and other UK streaming platforms.
