Alan Partridge is one of the most iconic characters in British comedy, and now fans of the Steve Coogan character can enjoy his new podcast.

This is everything you need to know about From the Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast.

What’s the podcast about?

From the Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast sees Steve Coogan, the actor who portrays the iconic character, take listeners on a journey as they see the “unseen” side of Alan Partridge.

The official description from Audible reads: “For the first time, this famously private man welcomes us into his home and audibly deshrouds himself for a fascinating series of podcasts.

“Over the course of 18 generously durated episodes, Partridge grants us full and unfettered access to his off-screen life (within reason).

“In exchange for a series of payments from Audible, he promises an access-all-areas pass to the nooks and crannies of his hinterland, to reveal a wiser, cleverer, more reflective Alan than many of his more vaunted peers have given him credit for.

“He then sends the resultant podcasts to Audible ensuring they meet the technical specifications laid down in the contract.”

Who else features on the podcast?

While other familiar characters are featured in the podcast, such as Partridge's assistant Lynn, Coogan’s voice is almost exclusively the only voice that listeners will hear.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Coogan explained the reasoning behind this decision: “I have this theory that if you're writing a funny phone call... I always think it's funnier to hear only one side of the phone call.

"Sometimes you're watching a movie and you'll hear both sides... or sometimes you'll watch a movie and the convention they establish is you hear the person on the phone, you hear them talking, but you can't hear the other person.

"I'm a big fan of that because the minimalism of having one person on the phone means the audience has to make an educated guess on what's being said during the gaps. Part of the appeal of comedy is that the audience has to do a bit of the work."

Is there a trailer?

Audible released a trailer for From the Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast on 7 July on YouTube.

The trailer sees Partridge introduce himself, saying that he “refuses to be pigeonholed” as just one thing.

“I’m not a pigeon. I’m a partridge,” he says.

Partridge says: “I’m an ordinary guy who does extraordinary things - or an extraordinary guy who does ordinary things. Guys, I’m really confused.”

The trailer ends with Patridge inviting the viewer to help him “sort through this mess” by joining him on his podcast.

The podcast was made available to listen to on Thursday 3 September.
