Black Friday tech sales 2020: deals on laptops, smart TVs, wearables, from Currys, AO and more

Tech deals are the mainstay of Black Friday: the month of November is the best time to buy a TV, pickup a new laptop, a wearable, or a pair of bluetooth headphones. Though the day itself is November 27, deals are available now.

Retailers will look to clear stock ahead of pushing the new buys for the 2020 Christmas season. In many cases, it's a mistake to hold out for the new models, when the previous iteration will be high spec at a fraction of the price.

First up, some bad news. We’re unlikely to see any PS5 or Xbox Series X deals this Black Friday. Demand for these brand new consoles is so high shortages are expected to continue well into 2021.

Want a Nintendo Switch instead? We hope to see Black Friday Switch deals around the £229 mark, although none are live at the time of publishing. Check back soon for updates.

OLED and Smart Televisions

TVs dominate the early Black Friday tech deals line-up, as they did last year. If you have the cash to spend, this is the best time to pick up an LG OLED or Samsung QLED set. They are among the best TVs in the world. Read our round up of TV sales here.

There's good news for anyone looking for headphones or fitness wearables, as 2019 models are still impressively high-spec and marked down.

Sales now on

Currys have already launched their Black Friday sale. They're a safe bet, as they offer a price-match refund policy if you find any purchase cheaper elsewhere on Black Friday itself. The only issue is high website traffic (it's only going to get higher, too), so you may have to wait in a queue. Their sale is on here

The range of deals at Appliance Online for Black Friday is excellent - prices on many items are as low as you'll find at any retailer - and at the moment there is no issue with traffic to the website. Their sale is on here

Canon is offering £60 of their Selphy or Zoemini printers. Their sale is on here

Dino PC has mark downs on their gaming PCs, components, and accessories. Their sale is on here

Best laptop and tablet deals

Huawei Matebook D 14, £499 (marked down from £699)

Huawei Matebook D 14, £499 (marked down from £699)

It's hard to recommend Huawei phones to most these days, as they don’t have Google apps. But there are no such worries with Huawei Windows laptops. The Huawei Matebook D 14 is a fantastic deal at £499, £200 off its original price.

You get an aluminium laptop with a 14-inch Full HD screen and core specs similar to many £1000 laptops. It has an Intel Core i5 CPU, 256GB storage and 8GB RAM. That will provide satisfying performance for advanced apps like Photoshop as well as the basics.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, £289 (marked down from £349)

Samsung Tab S6 Lite 10.4", £289

“Buy an iPad” is the most common piece of tablet buying advice. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is a convincing counter argument at £289, down from its usual £349.

The tablet includes a superb pressure sensitive stylus. It’s a great drawing tool, perfect for mindful doodling. You'd have to buy Apple’s Pencil (from £89) to get a similar experience with an iPad, ramping up costs significantly even if you buy Apple's cheapest tablet.

The best deal we've found is again at AO, here.

It's on sale for £299 at Currys, here, though at time of publication they are operating on a queue system, or at Selfridges for £299, here

Best wearable and audio deals

Garmin Venu, £199

Garmin Venu

The Venu is a glossier alternative to one of Garmin’s traditional runner’s watches. It has a full colour OLED screen, like a smartwatch, rather than the duller energy-saving style Garmin usually uses.

It’s a sports watch for everyday wear. The Garmin Venu still offers up to 20 hours of GPS tracking off a charge, or five days of general use. You don’t need to charge it every day like an Apple Watch.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active, £129 (marked down from £199)

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active, £129

Samsung’s new-for-2020 wearable is the Galaxy Watch 3. It’s tasty, but the older Galaxy Watch Active costs just a fraction of the price this Black Friday, and it may well do everything you need. It costs £129, down from £199.

This is a slick, stylish smartwatch with full GPS for run and cycle tracking, a 24/7 heart rate sensor and a beautiful OLED screen. You don’t get blood pressure of blood oxygen saturation readings but, well, do you really need them?

Headphones

Apple AirPods, £139.99

Apple AirPods, £139.99

Have an iPhone? You probably want a pair of AirPods, which are currently available at around £20 off. It may not sound a grand discount, but this is an Apple product. They are never price-gouged.

These base level AirPods don’t quite have the sound quality of the AirPods Pro, or their active noise cancellation, but their pairing is silky smooth. And they are far more comfortable than you might imagine.
