Youth truck reaches out to Bassetlaw kids

MOBILE youth clubs are proving a hit in the rural villages of Bassetlaw, giving youngsters somewhere to meet, socialise and have fun.

Notts County Council has two purpose built 7.5 tonne trucks which visit a number of rural communities.

They are aimed at young people aged between 10 and 19, and equipped with a range of youth facilities, from computer games to music equipment and arts and crafts.

Entrance is free and there are a wide range of activities on offer.

“These mobile services in Bassetlaw are good examples of how we extend youth activities to young people in rural areas and they provide a vital service,” said Coun Lynn Sykes, who chairs the council’s Young People’s Service committee.

“There are some exciting forthcoming events taking place in a range of communities over the coming months.”

Andrea Oswin, a Notts County Council youth worker said: “The mobile service now has the new FIFA 13 for the X-box and the team is looking at buying some new equipment including light up frisbees and possibly some unicycles.”

“Over the next month we are going to be making Christmas decorations and cards as well as lots of other fun things. We are finishing on 21st December for two weeks with bingo, mince pies and other Christmas games.”
