LGBT campaigner Crystal Lucas, from Worksop, says the “landmark event”.

Bassetlaw District Council, the Centre Place and Worksop Business Forum are just some of the organisations who have thrown their weight behind the festival, which will officially take place on Sunday, July 10 at the Masonic Hall.

A range of musical acts have now announced their involvement, including Paloma Faith and Adele tribute acts, singer Paul Ravel and Worksop rock covers band Swansong.

Plans to adorn Bridge Street with rainbow pride flags are in the pipeline and a mystery celebrity TV star is also set to attend.

Crystal said: “When I first started organising Worksop Pride, I wasn’t as confident and was aiming small- but now I feel like this has become bigger than I could have ever dreamed.

“I can’t believe how much has been achieved in the space of a few months, and I’ve received support from people I never expected would have wanted to be on board.

“I have made some amazing friendships, especially with staff from the Centre Place.

“It goes to show how much times are changing.

“I have a young daughter and it is important to me that she grows up in a world where she can be comfortable and where people are accepted no matter what their sexual orientation is.

“It’s comforting to know an event like this has received such a positive response.”

Crystal is keen to make Worksop Gay Pride a “family friendly affair” and has secured a bouncy castle, face painter, photo booth and stalls selling a variety of gifts and food from12pm onwards.

There will also be an after show party at the Corner House Pub.
