A women’s high street fashion retailer has confirmed it will be opening a new store at the Priory Shopping Centre next year.

Select began advertising online for sales assistant and store manager vacancies in Worksop earlier this year, fuelling speculation that a store would soon be opening the town.

The Guardian contacted the popular chain and can now confirm that the store will open its doors next February.

Select will join other high street fashion retailers in the complex such as New Look and Peacocks amongst others.

The majority of views from the Worksop community have been positive, with residents welcoming any new businesses to the town after a spout of recent shop closures.

Mandy Bell said: “I’m not keen on Select to be honest, but it takes up an empty space.”

Emma Pearson said: “Anything is better than an empty shop- that’s something Worksop is full of.”

Rebecca Cook said: “We had a Select in the town years ago and they left because it wasn’t making money, so why come back again to close in six months?”

Heidi Burrett would like to see a more diverse range of shops available in the town. She said: “We need a Next, BHS, an M&S that sells clothing or Debenhams in Worksop.”

Grant Cullen spoke of his disappointment when Yeoman’s, an outdoor clothing store, closed in the shopping centre earlier this month. He said: “I was sorry to see Yeomans pack up and leave- was it because rent and rates too high ?”

Priory Shopping Centre manager David Aunin declined to comment on the opening of the new store.
