The youngsters are currently completing The Prince’s Trust Team programme with Notts Fire and Rescue Service, a 12 week course which aims to provide young people with the chance to build skills and confidence in order to find work.
The eight participants have been working on Centre Place,a support centre, for two weeks- redecorating the toilets, painting walls in the kitchen and main room, painting and replacing doors and tidying up the garden area.
They have also bought new picnic benches with the money accumulated during one of their fundraising projects.
Sarah, aged 22, from Worksop, who took part in the project, said: “The course has given me the self-belief that I can make something of myself, and I now have the motivation to begin a career.”
“It has also given me confidence with meeting new people, challenging myself and facing my fears.”
Tracey Avery, The Prince’s Trust Worksop team leader, said: “Too many young people are struggling to find a job, and the young adults who have taken part in our programme are living proof that it is possible to turn your life around – no matter what background you’ve had.”
“Everyone involved in this project has worked so hard.”
“They’ve made a massive difference to the local community through this project, and they should all be very proud of what they have achieved,” Tracey added.
