A Worksop man who was found with a stab wound to the stomach remains in hospital today (Monday 7th April 2014).

Notts Police said his condition remained ‘stable’.

The 21-year-old, named locally as Steven Hancock, was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police were called to Northwood, in the Prospect area of Worksop, at around 2.30am on 6th April.

A block of flats was cordoned off for much of Sunday morning while police probed the scene.

No-one has been arrested yet in connection with the incident.

Mr Hancock’s family said he was ‘doing okay’.

Meanwhile, people took to Facebook to wish him well.

Ashby Leanne Colton said: “This town gets worse. It’s my cousin who’s been stabbed!! He’s stable and waiting to go into theatre!! Absolute scum, no-one deserves this!”

“Why do people have to use weapons? Cowards is all they are!! He’s a fighter and he will pull through!”

Rachel Booth wrote: “There is nothing wrong or worse with this town, it’s always been the same. Why do people say ‘what this town coming to?’ People hear more now than they used to with all the other media coverage. It’s not getting worse it’s always been the same. My thoughts are with the family - it should never happen.”

And Marc Waddingham said: “I live across from flats and to be fair I hear very little trouble from the flats. Lots of honest working people live there. This kind of stuff is horrible to hear. Mindless thugs. But this doesn’t make the whole of Prospect and Worksop a bad place to live. I could think of a whole lot of worse places.”
