Worksop: Tree-mendous effort by Norbridge Academy pupils

Green fingered pupils at Norbridge Academy have shown their environmental side by planting a host of trees in their school grounds.

Youngsters are benefiting from a new partnership between Wilko, based on Roebuck Way in Worksop, and the Woodland Trust charity.

Home and garden retailer Wilko has committed £20,000 to fund these tree packs for schools, giving pupils the chance to plant, grow and nurture new sapling.

Norbridge Academy received the first tree pack to celebrate the start of the partnership.

Teaching assistant at the academy, Kerry Caudwell, said: “This initiative is a great way to show young people how important it is to plant trees and protect them – and they have really enjoyed the fact that the trees will grow up with them.”

Wilko team members joined the Woodland Trust to plant a birch tree in the grounds of the school, which the children will then care for.

The pupils from the school have so far planted silver birches and rowans as they create a woodland legacy and learn about conservation.

Clare Allen, head of partnerships at The Woodland Trust, said: “We are delighted that Wilko has provided this funding which is enabling thousands more school children to benefit from new tree packs – including those at Norbridge Academy.”

“The initiative is a great way to boost coverage of trees in the UK.”
