Worksop: Town comes together at Remembrance Day Parade and Service

Councillors, cadets and young children and families paid their respects by lining the streets and laying wreaths on Sunday 9th November.

Events were held across the UK as the country fell silent to remember those who lost their lives during conflicts.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One and it is also 70 years since the D-Day landings.

The parade formed up in the Old Market Square in front of the Town Hall at around 10.15am under the direction of the parade marshall sgt Neil Orton.

The parade was then inspected by the deputy lieutenant of Notts, William Parentè, and the chairman of Bassetlaw District Council, coun Gillian Freeman.

The Worksop Miners’ Welfare Band played during the inspection and then the parade marched off from the Market Square via Potter Street and Watson Road.

Coun Gillian Freeman greeted cadets and personnel and Bassetlaw MP John Mann laid a wreath at the Cenotaph.

The Worksop Salvation Army Band played ‘The Last Post’ and the ‘Reveille’ prior to a two-minutes silence at 11.00am and Father Spicer of Worksop Priory took the service.
