Worksop: Thieves target 85-year-old pensioner in his own home

The pair approached the elderly man at his home on Kilton Road, Bracebridge, on Tuesday 5th August.

One man approached the victim at his home to discuss recent road works in the area. He coaxed the victim to the front of his property with a convincing story, enabling an accomplice to sneak into the unsecured property to steal cash from the victim.

Police in Worksop are now urging residents to keep out expected cold callers.

Detective Constable, Paul Allison, said: “Sadly this kind of crime is not uncommon. Uninvited callers are using simple methods to gain entry to homes, often targeting victims like this elderly gentleman in his own home.”

“We need to remind local people that they are in complete control when dealing with unexpected callers and remember ‘If in doubt, keep them out.’”

“Always ask for and check identity cards carefully and, if you are still not satisfied, check if the caller is genuine by phoning the company or organisation they say they work for. If the caller is genuine they will not mind waiting.”

“If you or someone you know receives a suspicious visit from an uninvited caller, we would urge you to report to us as soon as possible by calling us on 101.”

The cold caller is described as white, 5ft 7ins tall and of slim build. He has dark, straight neck-length hair, is aged in his late 20s or early 30s and was clean shaven. Both suspects left on foot towards Bracebridge and Kilton Hill.
