Worksop thief's curfew lifted because his mum fell ill

Michael Scott, 39, of Shrewsbury Road, Worksop, was sentenced to a 12 week community order, with a 9pm to 7am curfew, for stealing DVDs worth £46 on June 23.

David Verity, for Scott, told magistrates in Mansfield: “He normally lives with his mother but sadly she has been taken ill. For various reasons he can no longer live there.”

Mr Verity applied to have the curfew address changed to Carlton Road, where he would live with his ex-wife, but the probation service could not support the application as there was a history of domestic violence.

Cheryl Nisbet, of the probation service, said: “Mr Shaw is clearly a drug user. He has done entirely the right thing to let us know what is going on.

“It’s not the case he can’t stay at his mum’s, it is that he would prefer not to live there alone.”

Mr Verity suggested the court could revoke the curfew in the interests of justice, and the bench agreed ‘with some reluctance’.
