Worksop teen in '˜unprovoked' violent attack on stranger

Kieran Robinson, aged 19 of Queen Street Worksop pleaded guilty to assault by beating when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Robinson was captured on CCTV attacking his victim in the early hours of October 29.

The court heard the complainant was seen standing with his hands in his pockets.

The defendant took off his own ring watch and phone, handed them to another person and gestured to the man to come towards him.

He then punched him in the face and the complainant fell to the ground motionless.

Robinson then turned round to help him to his feet.

When police arrived Robinson claimed his victim was the aggressor, claiming he had been punched in the face.

He later admitted what he had done and said it was down to the amount of alcohol he had drunk on the night.

Robinson was described as a highly qualified machine operative of good character.

He had woken up in the cells with a chipped tooth, which he did not blame his victim for.

He told police he must have been angry and had taken it out of his victim.

District Judge Jonathan Tafte said: “”I am sick and tired of mainly young men saying I have never done anything like this before and it is out of character and they won’t do it again.

“You went out and got off your head and launched an unprovoked attack on someone you didn’t know, for reasons that can’t be explained to the court.

“You need to learn a lesson - moderate your drinking - if you can’t hold your drink, don’t drink and learn to respect other people.”

He was fined £300 with court costs of £85 and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
