Worksop: Support event to mark No Smoking Day

Worksop residents are being encouraged to quit cigarettes at an event to mark No Smoking Day.

Advisors will attend the event, being held on 12th March along Bridge Street, to offer information on quitting the habit and passive smoking.

Advisors have also been visiting supermarkets, children’s centres and hospitals in Bassetlaw on the run-up to the day.

This year’s No Smoking Day has a ‘V for Victory’ theme which is set to inspire hundreds of thousands of smokers to win the fight against cigarettes.

Coun Joyce Bosnjak, chairman of the Health and Wellbeing Board at the county council, said: “Whilst the Bassetlaw smoking rate is in line with the national average, our promotional events during March will help to encourage more local people to kick the habit.”

“We can offer a wide range of support for people wanting to quit, including nicotine replacement therapy and support groups with other quitters.”

One in five UK adults smoke, including 19.5 percent of residents across Bassetlaw district, but studies show around two thirds of smokers want to quit.
