Worksop: Supermarkets slash fuel prices

Sainsbury’s announced from today it would be cutting the price of fuel by up to 5p per litre.

Shortly after, Asda followed suit and said it would be reducing prices by up to 1p a litre and diesel by up to 2p a litre.

However this wasn’t enough, Tesco then decided it didn’t want to be left in the dark and also said it would be cutting the cost of its petrol and its diesel by up to 5p a litre.

In March the AA said petrol prices had fallen to their lowest in three years.

AA spokesman Luke Bosdet said: “A 5p cut in the price of petrol, lopping £2.50 off the cost of filling a typical fuel tank, will be particularly welcome as families get back to school runs and into their autumn routines.”

The Guardian asked people on Facebook what they thought of the new price cuts.

Clare Platts expressed her views about travelling to work:“I thought I was seeing things at Sainsbury’s this morning. I travel a lot for my job and this 5p drop is more in line with other areas in East Midlands, still a little more expensive though.”

Stuart Ginnever said: “ Better than 5p on. Some folk are never happy.”

“Should be 10p, it’s not as if they can’t afford to do that. Price of fuel has got out of control” said Paul Roome.
