For a second year running, Help for Heroes had a ‘pop-up’ shop in the Priory Shopping Centre in the town and shoppers dug deep to donate cash.

The store, which was open for a period of six weeks up until Christmas, was run completely free of charge, meaning every single penny went to the charity.

Regional manager at Help for Heroes, Tony Eaton, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to the people of Worksop and Bassetlaw for all their generosity, again they came up trumps and helped us raise a staggering £18,000 for our wounded injured and sick personnel.”

“We are looking forward to fundraising again this year in the Priory Shopping Centre with a Help For Heroes colossal cake sale in March or April and other events throughout the year, watch this space.”

“Without the dedication and hard work by the amazing team of Help for Heroes volunteers, we would not have been able to run the shop and raise the amazing £18000, so a massive thanks to Mitch, Julie, Marilyn, Steve, Janey, Hollie, Roger, Simon and Haley.”

David Aunins, manager at Priory Shopping Centre, told the Guardian: “We are always delighted to be involved with Help for Heroes, they do such a fantastic job to support wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women. At the Priory we constantly strive to enhance our role in the local community and our work with Help for Heroes is part of this.”

“We do all we can to support the charity, whether it be for their colossal cake sales or by providing an empty unit at Christmas completely free of charge. The store raised a staggering amount of money last Christmas and it’s great to be able to contribute to that.”
