Worksop: Sex offender failed to comply with register requirements, court hears

Ian Gilding pleaded guilty to failing to notify of his no fixed abode status on 6th December 2014, which he is required to do so on a weekly basis.

Gilding also admitted failing to surrender to police bail at the appointed time on 21st April 2015 after he ‘missed the train’ because he got to sleep ‘at about 4am’.

Gilding was forced to sign the register after convictions of indecent assault and rape in 2001.

The court heard that this was Gilding’s sixth failure to comply with the requirements.

“He lives in a shelter outside an unoccupied pub in Worksop,” David Verity said in mitigation. “His whole day is spent walking around Worksop getting picked on by people.”

Gilding who received a six-month sentence for threatening behaviour and criminal damage in December, was said to have complied since he got out in March.

Mr Verity also said police supported the view that Gilding should be taken off the register now as he posed no risk.

Gilding received a 14-day custodial sentence, suspended for six months. He was also ordered to pay £150 court costs and £185 victim surcharge.
