Worksop school in line for top national pupils award

Outwood Academy Portland, on Netherton Road, has received the Key Stage Four Pupil Premium Award and hasnow been invited to submit an application for the regional and national award.

The school is the only one across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire to have been selected.

Dr Philip Smith, associate executive principal at the school, said: “We are extremely proud to be recognised for the provision we make for disadvantaged students.

“The outcomes our students achieve are amongst the highest in England and Outwood has been nominated to apply for an award based entirely on how well students did compared to others throughout the country.”

Childcare and education minister, Sam Gyimah MP, sent a letter to the school.

It said: “It is clear that you and your staff have provided your disadvantaged pupils with a good start in life and prepared them well for further study, training and employment.”

“I would like to congratulate your governors, parents and pupils for their hard work and success, and thank you for your leadership in making such a difference to the future success of your pupils.

“Finally, I would also encourage you to share your achievements with other schools so that they can learn from your strengths and experiences.”
