Amy White’s creation was named the winner in the tuna category at the British Sandwich Designer of the Year competition.

Amy, who works at Greencore at Manton Wood, was one of 30 finalists in the competition, held by the British Sandwich Association (BSA) at the London Lancaster Hotel in Mayfair last week.

She held her nerve to create her stylish tangy, tasty Mediterranean sandwich, which wowed the judging panel, which included representatives from across the sandwich industry.

Amy, who won through the regional heats to the London final, was over the moon to win her category.

She said: “I was delighted to be recognised as winner of the tuna category, the competition was very tough and I was up against some fantastic chefs from across the UK.”

The finalists ranged from owners and managers of local cafes to development chefs from some of the UK’s leading food manufacturers.

BSA director Jim Winshipsaid: “The standard of competition seems to get higher every single year and it certainly took something special to catch the judges’ eye this time around, however the combination of flavours and textures in Amy’s recipe, coupled with its commerciality really made it stand out from the crowd.”
