Worksop: Sad farewell as owner closes much loved town centre sweet shop

David Edwards announced the closure of his traditional Bridge Street sweet shop, Edwards Emporium, on Monday 5th January.

The popular retailer informed customers that being diaognosed with a heart condition, which means he can no longer drive or lift heavy items, had led to the closure.

Said David: “I can no longer carry on trading in this type of role due to my illness.”

“I will miss my customers and hope they have enjoyed the traditional, special shopping experience I have always strived to provide in times when supermarkets are trying to take over.”

Prior to opening Edwards Emporium in Worksop in August 2013, David also ran a sweet shop in Boston that quickly won the Boston New Business award.

Known for its quirkiness and being a ‘small shop with a big choice’, Edwards Emporium stocked a wide variety of traditional and modern sweets, featuring old school favourites and more exotic creations ordered over from the US.

Customised gift hampers and loyalty cards were also available with fun competitions to win free sweets held monthly.

Worksop resident Linzi Crowther said: “I am so sorry to hear this, my daughter walked past the other day and it was closed. She loves the diabetic sweets in there.”

Claire Cotteril said:” I will miss this shop.”

“Proper sweets from my child hood and such nice service always.”
