Worksop: RSPCA appeal after dog was found in a suitcase

The body was found by two teenage boys and was reported to the police, who in turn reported it to the RSPCA.

The incident was reported on 2nd January and the suitcase was found on the canal bank along High Hoe Road in the town.

The body of the dog was so decomposed that a post mortem could not be carried out on it.

However, it was a small dog, possibly a cross, either a Jack Russell terrier or a Staffordshire bull terrier.

It is thought it was mature in age and it was likely to be a female as it was wearing a pink collar.

The body had been placed in a washing basket and this was pink in colour with the High School Musical emblem on it.

This was then put inside a pink suitcase which had swirls on it.

RSPCA inspector, Keith Ellis, is investigating the incident.

He said: “It is difficult to establish the dog’s cause of death because the body was so badly decomposed.”

“But it is suspicious that someone wants to dispose of a body in this way.”

“There is a concern that the dog could have been put in the water alive.”

“I hope this is not the case, but clearly we just don’t know.”

“I would appeal to anyone who recognises the description of this dog or the suitcase and would urge anyone with information to contact me on the RSPCA inspector appeal line.”
