Worksop: Residents ‘shocked’ and ‘sad’ at deaths

Residents of Hardwick Road East are in shock after the deaths of two people.

The bodies of a man and a woman were found by police just before 7am on Monday morning.

They have since been named locally as Leszek Dantes and his wife Malgorzata.

The couple are originally from Poland.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Neighbour Fay Peacock, who has lived on the street for 18 years, said: “They were very nice people, great people.”

“When the lady first moved in she brought me a cake as a present.”

“She would always say ‘hello’ in a morning. I am very sad.”

“This is a good street and they are nice people, it is a shame.”

“My husband told me when I was in bed that the police were next door and that they had taped the house up.”

Police forensic teams wearing overalls were inside the property all day and will continue their investigations today.

Fay’s husband Terence said: “This is one of the best streets in Worksop.”

“It is very community orientated.”

“I am in shock.”

Fellow resident Maria Pettinger said: “They were always polite.”

One woman who did not want to be named said: “It is a bit worrying because there are a lot of children who live on this road.”
