Worksop: Residents put forward their ideas for future plans on shaping the town

Bassetlaw Council held a consultation exercise on Saturday 14th March at Worksop Town Hall and members of the public were invited to come along and have their say on improvements they would like to see happen over the next ten years.

People said that they didn’t like the poor quality buildings and shop fronts in the town centre, and the lack of high street stores on Bridge Street, with too many estate agents, charity shops and discount stores.

They also said they didn’t like recent changes to car park charges and there were some general concerns about the capacity of local infrastructure.

However residents did say they like the new location of the market, the cinema, facilities in the new library and improvements to the Canch.

David Armiger, interim director of regeneration and neighbourhoods, said: “On the whole it was an extremely positive event where people from both inside and outside of the district were able to give us their unique views of what Worksop should look like in the future.”

“We will be holding another consultation event this weekend at Retford Town Hall and would urge people to come along and give us their opinions and visions for the future of Retford.”

The authority is drawing up a new approach for the district after abandoning their ‘Local Development Framework’ plan.

This was due to implications of changes to Government guidance and conclusions from a planning inspector that Bassetlaw did not have enough sufficient housing permissions to meet its requirement in the next five years.
