Worksop: Rejection leaves 200 potential new jobs in jeopardy

Horizon, the company behind the proposals, want to build the two homes at the Greenacres site off Wingfield Avenue.

But that is now in doubt after the consultation group’s decision, although the proposal still has to go before the planning committee, who could yet go against the officers’ recommendations.

“We have been told that planning officers are going recommend that this project does not get the go ahead,” said Laura Higginbottom, Horizon’s managing director.

“This would be a real blow as it would be a huge economic boost for the area, bringing with it jobs and increased benefits for existing businesses.”

“With over 1,300 people unemployed within walking distance of this project, we are astounded that the council is turning down the opportunity for local residents to improve their circumstances.”

““We have not been given the reasons for this recommendation and are very disappointed at our treatment by the planning officer.”

A council spokesman said: “The application by Horizon was considered by councillors at the planning consultation group this week, who voted to reject planning permission following recommendations from the officers.”

“Details of the decision will be passed onto the agents of Horizon and will also be available in the planning section of council’s website.”
