Worksop: Rebecca’s girls are strictly the best for dancing

Talented dancers from Rebecca’s Dance Studios have placed Worksop firmly on the map after scooping three prestigious awards at a national dance competition, including two overall wins.

After months of training, the school entered three troupes at the Association of American Dancing Awards held annually at Blackpool Opera House which holds Europe’s largest stage.

But that held no fear for the Carlton-in-Lindrick based school who rose to the occasion to take home the spoils.

The two wins came from the youngest and oldest of the troupes.

The babes troupe, all aged between five and eight years, performed a festive-themed routine titled Sleigh Ride, with snow girls and dancing reindeers.

Meanwhile, the senior troupe took first place in the New Entry category after they performed a modern twist on a classical symphony in which the dancers became the instruments of the orchestra.

Not to be outdone, the junior section girls recreated the Wizard of Oz in a routine called Brand New Day which included a giant parachute to create a rainbow effect.

They were awarded third place overall, making up for just missing out on the top three last year when they were fourth,

School principal Rebecca Doona said: “What the girls have achieved is outstanding.”

“This was only our second year at the competition and the standard of entries is extremely high.”

“We knew it would be a tough competition but the troupes have rehearsed weekly for months and their hard work paid off.”

“They are a credit to themselves, to their families and to Worksop and we are so proud of them.”

“It was a fabulous weekend as we were in Blackpool at the same time as Strictly Come Dancing so the girls enjoyed having their pictures taken with the celebrities at the tower.”

“We had more than 100 family and friends there to support the dancers so it was a great atmosphere.”

“We have a fantastic team of assistants, dressmakers, hairdressers and parents who make these events possible.”

“It is down to them and the girls’ hard work that we came away with two firsts and a third.”

There is no rest for the dancers as they returned from Blackpool straight into rehearsals for this weekend’s Worksop Christmas lights switch on where they will be dancing in the Priory Centre at 4pm on Saturday.

Rebecca added: “To think these girls now hold national dance titles is an amazing achievement. Please come and seem them and show your support for fantastic local talent.”

The babes will also be performing Sleigh Ride in A Magical Christmas at the Acorn Theatre on Saturday, 21st December.
