Worksop rail travel to see disruption during improvement works this summer

A major improvement scheme is currently ongoing to redevelop Nottingham station into a world-class transport hub and Network Rail will shortly begin work on a £100 million project to rebuild the rail infrastructure around the city and the county of Notts.

Network Rail say that this will ‘help to future-proof Nottingham’s railway for the increasing number of passengers and deliver improved reliability’.

As a result of the major work being carried out by Network Rail during the summer, there will be significant changes to East Midlands Trains services on routes to and from Nottingham between Saturday 20th July and Sunday 25th August.

The Robin Hood linefrom Mansfield and Worksop to Nottingham will see the impact - so a frequent bus service will run in place of the normal train service for the duration of the work with four buses an hour running between Nottingham and Mansfield/Mansfield Woodhouse and an hourly service running from Mansfield to Worksop.

Stations affected by this include Nottingham, Bulwell, Hucknall, Newstead, Kirkby in Ashfield, Sutton Parkway, Mansfield, Mansfield Woodhouse, Shirebrook, Langwith-Whaley Thorns, Creswell, Whitwell and Worksop.

From 11th April, timetables for all the affected routes will be available to download at www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/nottingham, along with advice and information for passengers travelling to and from Nottingham over the summer.

Managing Director for East Midlands Trains David Horne said: “This is a very exciting and significant scheme for Nottingham and one that will create a better, more reliable railway for passengers.”

“Every effort has been made to deliver the best possible service for our passengers during Network Rail’s re-signalling works whilst recognising that some people will face considerable changes to their normal journey.”

He added: “OThere will inevitably be some short term disruption during an investment of this scale and I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that this will cause, but this is about investing for future generations in the heart of the East Midlands.”
