Worksop: Premier Foods confirm Oxo advert starring Lynda Bellingham will be aired on Christmas Day

A 1984 Oxo advert starring much-loved actress Lydna Bellingham will be screened on Christmas Day in memory of her life and career.

Premier Foods, which owns Oxo, and is a well-known employer in Worksop with a branch on Claylands Avenue, made the announcement on Tuesday 11th November.

Over the past few weeks, ‘hundreds of thousands’ of fans called for the return of the ad, after she passed away on Sunday 19th October, aged 66, after suffering from colon cancer.

A spokesperson said: “The advert will be aired nationwide on Christmas Day as a one-off spot on ITV and will also be available to view online throughout the day.”

“To honour the sad loss of such a fabulous actress, organisations and individuals involved in the creation and production of this initiative have given freely of their time.”

“Premier Foods will make a donation to Action Against Cancer, one of the charities supported by Lynda, in line with the wishes of her family.”

After her death, an online campaign was set-up calling for Oxo adverts to be aired over the Christmas period in her memory.

The actress was best known for her role as the mother in the TV advertisements.

Fan Tina Burrell created a Facebook page called ‘Oxo Advert Christmas Day Tribute For Lynda Bellingham’ - and it received hundreds of thousands of ‘likes’ and comments within hours.

One of the first posts said: “She wanted Christmas one more time. Let’s all like and share and make the advert broadcast in her memory.”

Following the confirmation, Tina said: “I am super happy this group has set out what it wanted to do. A big thank you to Lynda’s family cause without their consent this would not have happened.”
